How to Get the Best Out Of Your Invisalign Treatment

The position of your teeth might seem like a minor issue, but it’s not. Even if a single tooth is slightly crooked, it stands out. Crowded, gappy, or protruding teeth can harm your self-confidence and your oral health.

The good news is that these problems can be addressed with an orthodontic treatment. Invisalign is a popular and convenient option that can fix your smile and improve the health of your teeth.

If you’ve chosen to straighten your smile using Invisalign, you may wonder what you can expect.

Here’s how you can get the best out of your Invisalign treatment.

What Is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a clear, removable orthodontic aligner for straightening teeth, closing gaps, reducing overcrowding, and fixing bite issues. Millions use this versatile and effective treatment worldwide, achieving excellent results.

How Invisalign Works

To fix your smile, the clear plastic Invisalign aligner exerts a small amount of force against your teeth. This constant gentle pressure slowly moves your teeth. Although you won’t see or feel the movement, over time, you’ll notice a dramatic change.

During your treatment, you’ll change your aligner every two weeks. Each new bespoke aligner might look exactly like your last one, but it’s slightly different; it is designed to take your treatment a step further.

Before you start your treatment, we’ll take digital scans of your teeth and jaw. Using the latest software, we’ll then plan your entire treatment working out how many steps you’ll need to get the perfect results. The best thing about the digital planning process is that we can show you what your new smile will look like before the aligners are even made.

Wearing Your Aligner

To get the predicted results, you’ll need to wear your aligners for roughly 22 hours each day. They’re perfectly comfortable, so wearing them to bed won’t be a problem.

The only times you really need to take your aligners out are when you’re eating, drinking, and brushing your teeth. Taking them out to take the odd selfie won’t cause any harm; just remember to pop them straight back in when you’ve finished.

Swapping Aligners

Roughly every two weeks, we’ll give you a new aligner. Because each new aligner is the next step in your treatment, it’s essential to wear it as instructed, or we might not achieve the results we’re hoping for.

When you first wear your new aligner, it may feel slightly tight compared to the last one. This is normal. To get used to wearing the new aligner, try changing over at night and letting your mouth adjust as you sleep.

When you get a new aligner, keep hold of the last one. If you lose or damage your current aligner, contact us to find out what to do. We’ll usually suggest wearing your previous aligner until a replacement is ready. By wearing the last aligner, you’ll preserve the progress you’ve made so far.

Caring for Your Aligner

Your aligner is a precision orthodontic appliance that’s custom-made for your teeth. It should be worn by you and nobody else. If you take it out, put it in a case. This is not only more hygienic, but it’ll also protect it from damage.

Throughout the day, your aligner will pick up food debris and bacteria from your mouth. Because it’s pressed against your teeth so much, it’s essential to thoroughly clean your aligner often. You can do this with a soft toothbrush and soap.
