What Are Dental Veneers?
We all want beautiful, radiant smiles. But if you’re plagued with several dental issues such as cracks, stains, or even slightly misaligned teeth, it can ruin your self-confidence. You may worry that you’ll need multiple forms of treatment to correct these problems. Luckily, that’s not always the case.
Dental veneers are fine porcelain shells that are applied to the front of your teeth to dramatically improve their overall appearance. This popular cosmetic dental treatment has a range of benefits and is popular the world over.
So, what do you need to know about them?
Let’s take a look at dental veneers, their benefits, and how they are placed.
What Are the Benefits of Dental Veneers?
Veneers are effective as they:
- Make your smile appear brighter
- Cover any chips and cracks
- Correct minor misalignment issues
- Remove small gaps between teeth
- Protect damaged teeth
What Do Dental Veneers Look Like?
Veneers look completely natural. Once placed, nobody would even know they’re there! Made from either a tooth-coloured porcelain or composite resin, veneers are fine shells that are often compared to false nails.
Our expert dental technicians will craft your perfect veneers from the impressions we take of your teeth. Each made-to-measure veneer is then carefully placed and bonded seamlessly into place.
How Are Dental Veneers Placed?
The process will begin with a consultation to discuss what you’d like to achieve. Here we can discuss whether you’d like veneers on just one or two teeth, or an entire arch.
To prepare your teeth for veneer placement, we’ll need to carefully remove some of the enamel from the surface of each tooth receiving treatment. This is done to ensure that the tooth doesn’t appear too large.
Once your expertly crafted veneers are ready, we’ll place them. This is a relatively simple process, and once we’re happy with the position, we’ll securely fix them in place.
If you opt for composite veneers, we’ll apply the resin and then harden it using a special UV light.
How Do You Care for Dental Veneers?
Veneers are durable and stain-resistant. That said, it’s important to take good care of them so they last for many years to come.
First and foremost, get into good oral hygiene habits. Brush your teeth twice a day using a good toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. Use dental floss and mouth wash to minimise bacteria and debris build-up. You may also want to make a dental hygiene appointment too.
Regular visits to your dentist are essential too. We recommend visiting us twice a year. We’ll keep an eye on your veneers and make sure they’re still looking impeccable.
To prevent veneers from becoming damaged, do your best to avoid biting into anything hard such as pen lids or ice.
